60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

This direct-replacement chassis will fit the cab and the bed on this chassis, without modifications to the bed floor. Your chassis can be ordered with just about any optional modifications including the ShockWave remote operated air suspension system. Your pickup chassis can ordered with up to a 10-inch step over the rear suspension, while the front chassis step is available up to 4-inches more then stock. Combine these steps over the suspension with ShockWave bags and you're on the ground. If you want your ride down in the weeds this is the only way to go. Remember, all of our chassis have an adjustable stance in the front-and-rear (about 4-inches). The tabs on the edge of the rails are bed mounts. We also offer 3-styles of Panhard bars: the one shown on top of the housing, our Low Roll-Center Panhard bar that goes behind the housing and is parallel with the housing, and a diagonal link style.

For superior handling and cornering, our 1-inch diameter antisway bars front-and-rear are must have items. At the front of the chassis, the optional rounded frame horns will accept stock bumper brackets.

Looking at the front suspension from the engine compartment, you can see how the pedestal style engine mounts (from the bottom/rear of the front crossmember to the inside of the frame rails) add additional support to the 2X4X .188-inch wall box tube front crossmember.

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

For big block power, Jim has also added “J”-tubes from the bottom of the crossmember to the inside of the frame rails. The pedestal style engine supports will accept mounts for either BB or SB GM engines, however we will build any engine (and trans) mounts required.

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

Our '60-72 GM/GMC pickup chassis comes standard with 11-inch GM disc brakes and a 5-on-4 ¾ wheel bolt pattern. We use the '67-72 Chevelle spindle with bolt-on steering arms, rotors and calipers. If you want a 5-on-5 wheel pattern, you'll have to go to the GM 12-inch disc brakes ('77-88 Impala/Caprice). Wilwood hubs offer only 5-on-4 ¾ or 5-on-4 ½ for their 12.90-inch diameter rotor with a 6-piston caliper or a 12.19-inch diameter rotor with 4-piston calipers or any of their smaller 4-piston brake packages. These will fit on our standard Chevelle spindle. We can not drill a 5-on-5 pattern in the 11-inch Chevelle rotor. There just isn't enough room. Notice the upper coilover shock mount. This is what we are known for: an adjustable stance chassis or IFS. No other chassis manufacturer offers this 4-corner stance adjustability as a standard feature. This upper bracket can be moved about 3-4-inches for the stance you like best. See the next two photos. All of our IFS kits and our chassis offer this adjustable feature. The 1-inch diameter antisway bar is optional.

For front stance adjustability, it all happens here behind this upper bracket. Two ½-inch Allen bolts secure the bracket to the upper A-arm tower. In the next photo, you can see the four mounting-holes. This offers you three positions for movement, since two holes are needed for all three moves. The off-set bracket can also be flipped over for another 1-inch of movement.

This chassis features the optional power Mustang rack that bolts in the same mounts as the standard manual rack. In this view, you can see the pedestal style motor mounts that will accept either BB or SB engines and their mounts. Besides acting as a motor mount, the tube adds strength between the front crossmember and the frame rails on both sides. You can also see how the optional antisway bar is attached to the rails via the bracket and urethane bushings.

Looking into the back of the '67-72 Chevelle spindles, reveals the Jim Meyer beefy 1-inch thick bolt on steering arms that replace the stock front-steer arms. The balljoints are easy-to-get GM items used from about 1974-1988 on most mid-sized and full sized GM cars. The 1-inch diameter optional antisway bar is a must-have item if you want flat cornering and a great handling pickup. All of our pickup chassis feature 1-inch diameter X .156-inch wall upper A-arms and 1 ¼-inch diameter X .156-inch wall lower A-arms.

The forward crossmember, just in front of the Panhard bar, is a thru-frame tubular crossmember that houses the optional rear antisway bar inside. This crossmember adds more strength to the frame since it is welded on the inside of the rails and on the outside of the rails as well. It also keeps the antisway bar arms tight against the rails. We offer either a 2X4 box tube fabricated step over the rear suspension (shown) or a 2X4 box tube mandrel-bent step over the rear. Different steps over the rear suspension are available, up to 10-inches and over the front up to 4-inches. The big steps over the rear suspension will require a newly shaped bed floor that goes over the rails, but it sure gives a killer on-the-ground stance when finished. We also build a new custom-width round-back 9-inch housing with Dutchman alloy axles for your chassis.

The 24-inch long adjustable urethane bushed 4-link bars that attach to the outside of the rails make a more exhaust friendly chassis. The bracket shown above the frame rail is one of the 8 stock bed-mounts we can provide to make this chassis a direct replacement. In this view, you can see where the 2X5 main frame rail meets the rear 2X4 box tube rails, just to the rear of the 4-link mounting bracket. An exterior doubler-plate is always used to reinforce this grafted connection.

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

We offer adjustable aluminum coilover shocks that are available with adjustable rebound or adjustable compression with one-knob or a two-knob adjustable model: one knob for rebound and one knob for compression or a single-knob: rebound only style or the non-adjustable coilover. The two knob adjustable model is our top of the line.

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

We offer two different styles of rear lower coilover shock mounts or ShockWave air suspension mounts. The three-hole style is our Street Rod Style mount and the multi-hole style is our Drag Racing Style mount. Again, either of these brackets will hold the coilover shock or the rear ShockWaves from Air Ride Technologies. Both (brackets) will offer you an adjustable stance at the rear. Couple this with our adjustable IFS and you'll get 4-corner stance adjustability.

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

Looking at the front of the rear 4-link bracket, you can see our 1-inch diameter X .156-inch wall urethane-bushed adjustable 4-link control arms. All of our brackets are laser-cut and tumbled to provide you a clean, good looking bracket and a cleaner weld and consistant fit during production. In this photo, the brackets are tack-welded to the 3-inch diameter axle-housing tubes. We pulkse-tig weld all of our jig-built chassis and IFS components. We are happy to say we do not wire-weld any Jim Meyer components in our shop!

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

We include bed-and-body mounts in their stock locations on all of our chassis as shown in this photo. This chassis can be ordered with an additional step over the front suspension and/or an additional step over the rear suspension. This will give a much lower stance. If you are going to raise or lower the bed, let us know and custom bed mounts can be included in your order. Our '60-72 pickup chassis features 2X5 main (center) frame rails and 2X4 box tube frame rails over the front-and-rear suspensions.

60-72 Chevy Truck Direct Replacement Chassis

Our transmission frame brackets feature the holes for all the most popular GM and aftermarket transmissions: GM Turbo 350 & 400, 700R4, Power Glide, GM 4-speed and GM 6-speed. Gold/Zink Grade-8 fasteners and Nylock nuts and Locitite are provided with all of our kits.
